Full-Size Oreos
When the school added back candy to the vending machines in the Drinkward Center, many different brands of candies were added back, including Oreos. However, the Oreos that the administration added to the vending machine was the mini kind, not the full-size kind that existed before they were removed from the machines.
The OES Environmentalists takes a firm stand against important issues like these. This problem stands at the forefront of the controversial opinions and their conflicts between students and the administration. It is the job of the environmental club at OES to stand up for the students and do what is right for the environment. Full-size Oreos include less packaging and include more calories, meaning the ratio of value-to-waste is higher for full-size Oreos than for the smaller ones.
This issue is very important to the club, and we hope to see a change in the near future.
How you can help
There are many ways that you can help the environmental club through this dispute, both direct and indirect. These ways include:
- Write letters to your teachers. Your teachers have a large influence on the snack selection at school. Keeping in contact with them and letting them know your feelings is very important.
- Boycott the vending machine Oreos. Stop buying the small Oreos. This movement is pointless if we can't stand on business.
- Take your own large Oreos to school. If the administration notices lots of people bringing their own, full-size Oreos to school, then they will notice that the vending machines are lacking this full-size snack.
The issue at hand is no small issue, but it can be overcome with the help of other students. Do your part to get the full-size Oreos back in the vending machines.
